How do I place a hold or recall on a book that is checked out (out on loan)?
Faculty who wish to recall a book to place on Reserves for classroom reading, should contact the Reserves Office. The borrower will be asked to return the book immediately.
If the AU book you need for research is checked out, you have 3 choices:
1. Consult the library catalog to see if a consortium library has the book on the shelf and place a consortium loan request. The book will be sent to the AU Borrowing Desk (Circulation) on the first floor of the library for you to pick up. You will receive email notification when the book arrives.
2. AU students, faculty and staff may place a hold / recall on AU books only.
When you place a hold, the current borrower may keep the book until the due date. He or she will not be able to renew it. When it is returned, email notification will be sent. The book will be held at the Borrowing Desk. Click on the link below to place a hold.
3. Place an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request. Be advised that ILL requests can take two weeks or longer to fill.
