Each year, one book is selected for incoming freshmen to read prior to their arrival in the fall. This "Writer as Witness" (WaW) program is an integral part of the college writing curriculum.  The author is invited to campus to address the university community.
For freshmen entering in fall 2016, the book S Street Rising: Crack, Murder, and Redemption in D.C.
