Q. What does "stored at Shared Collections Facility (formerly WRLC Center); available for delivery" mean? How do I request an item?

The Washington Research Libraries Consortium (WRLC) Shared Collections Facility is the storage facility in Prince Georges County, Maryland that is shared by AU and the other Consortium member universities.

AU uses the offsite storage for bound journals, microforms, books and other library materials that are not frequently requested.

In the catalog, items that are sent to storage are marked held in "WRLC Shared Collections Facility" or WRLC Center.

Here is how you retrieve materials from the Shared Collections Facility/WRLC Center:

Students, faculty and staff of WRLC libraries may submit online requests for items stored at the "WRLC Center" by clicking on the red "REQUEST" icon that appears on the full item record page in the library catalog. Journal articles are requested using the same form and must include the full article citation.  The article will be scanned by WRLC staff and delivered to the requestor's library account portal ("My Library Account").  If the entire bound journal volume is needed it can be requested but must be used in the AU library.

Materials requested by 5 pm are delivered to the library the next business day. Individual journal articles are transmitted directly to the user's library account portal. A small reading room is available at WRLC by appointment for onsite review of materials.

The state-of-the-art shared offsite storage facility in Prince Georges County, MD frees valuable space in the campus libraries for newer or more frequently-accessed materials.

The storage facility provides high-density, environmentally-controlled, retrievable storage for books, audiovisual or microform media, and archival boxes. Individual items are sorted by size in order to store the maximum number of items in the minimum floor area.
