As of 2011, all theses and dissertations are submitted electronically and are available online.

As of 2022, all legacy theses and dissertations (pre-2011) held by Archives & Special Collections have been digitized and are available online.

You can find theses and dissertations in the AU Research Archive (AURA) or Dissertations and Theses (American University-authored) via ProQuest.

*If using ProQuest, you will need AU credentials.

Archives & Special Collections maintains the legacy paper theses and dissertations. These do not circulate, and may not be borrowed. If you have questions about a paper copy or cannot locate a digital version, please contact us at archives@american.edu.

Additionally, there are microform copies of AU theses and dissertations available for lending via Interlibrary Services (Interlibrary Loan [ILL]).
