AU, like most research and university libraries, uses Library of Congress Classification for their call numbering system.  By using the Classification scheme, libraries are able to group books of similar subjects together. The Library of Congress website, LOC.gov has a listing of the call letters and numbers and the corresponding subjects covered. http://www.loc.gov/catdir/cpso/lcco/  If you are in the library, printed summarized lists are available at the Information Desk.
