AU Library will ship the following:

  • AU books and music domestically
  • WRLC materials domestically
  • ILL materials on a case-by-case basis
  • International materials on a case-by-case basis

However, please note we will exercise the option to purchase a digital version of the materials you want shipped if available before shipping materials out.

Some items that fit the above description may not be shipped due to their condition, retention status, ease of replacement, or other factors.

To start the shipping process:

  • Find items using AU Library Search
  • If available at AU Library, select "Request for pickup"; if not, request via ILL
  • Reply to hold shelf notification email and copy circulation@american.edu to request that items be shipped
  • For ILL items, contact auill@american.edu

We ship via:

  • USPS for domestic outbound AU/WRLC items
  • Domestic AU/WRLC items are returned via a prepaid USPS shipping label and box that AU will send to the borrower, who will be responsible for printing the label and dropping the box off at a post office or scheduling a USPS pick-up
  • AU will pay for shipment of AU/WRLC while funds are available
  • For ILL items, users will be responsible for returning borrowed items via FedEx
  • Limit of five shipped items at a time
